From the shortbread tin

Scottish At Heart is on a break, but there’s still much to be said.

I thought I should give a peek into what’s going on behind the scenes, and in my life so you can get to know me more - and maybe discover something you’d like.

This week I contacted several people who I would love to have guest on the Scottish At Heart podcast, so far I’ve had one favourable response, which is a good start.

I don’t like to badger the people I want on my show but if I don’t hear from them I do tend to reach out once more.

It’s hard scheduling interviews when you’re on the other side of the world.

I recorded one at 6am on Tuesday with Gary Innes and it was a lot of fun. I can’t wait to launch season two for you.

The podcast is changing a little from what it was before.

Well, it’s getting a new name - Our Scotland - for one.

The premise will be your perfect day in Scotland and in that weaving stories of life in Scotland.

Who would you like to hear from?

Email me with your guest suggestions.

What I’ve been reading:

I’ve recently finished A Long Time Dead by JM Dalgleish. It’s set on the Isle of Skye and is the first of his Misty Isle series.

I visited Skye briefly last year and this has made me want to return. I’m now half way through the second book, The Dead Man of Storr.

What I’ve been listening to:

I’ve got a ticket to Tide Lines at the Barrowlands, so I’ve been listening to a lot of their music. I already own a couple of their CDs (here’s a link to Ocean Full of Islands) but Spotify is helping fill in the gaps.

What I’ve been cooking:

I made mince and tatties on Monday. It was a dreich day. I used this recipe from Scottish Scran.

Today I tried to bake shortbread but I burned the whole tray, the temperature was right but the shortbread was spread too thin. Will use a smaller baking try next time.
